HALLOWEEN NIGHTMARE
In 2004, archaeologist Dr. Jonathan Hayes leads an expedition into a remote mountain region of mainland China. With him are Rebecca Ward, a perceptive British researcher, and Li Wei, a Chinese-American colleague. Their search brings them to a sealed cave beneath towering cliffs. Local workers refuse to help open it, warning that the place has a grim history. Jonathan promises the team will only examine the entrance, but curiosity—and the prospect of a major discovery—draws them inside.
The cave contains a chamber filled with decapitated skeletons. Some wear the remnants of medical uniforms, and a metal case marked “WHO SARS Unit” suggests a more recent, failed attempt to contain whatever happened there. In an inner chamber, the explorers find a strange corpse sitting upright in a niche. Li secretly takes a small skeletal hand, treating it as a specimen. The gesture awakens the corpse. It attacks Rebecca, and the team barely escapes. Soon afterward, Li becomes ill, and the danger follows the expedition beyond the cave. Jonathan and Rebecca leave the site carrying more questions than answers—and a secret they do not understand.
Years later, on Halloween night in Cerritos, California, Will and Laura Peterson take their daughter Amy and her friend Emily to HALLOWEEN NIGHTMARE, a vast seasonal amusement park filled with haunted attractions, rides, and costumed performers. Emily is withdrawn and keeps something hidden in her jacket: a finger bone connected to her father’s troubled past. As the family moves through the park, the bone slips from Emily’s pocket and falls beneath the queue for the Mummy Maze.
The bone’s arrival awakens the buried evil. At first, the park’s scares seem like part of the show: flickering lights, sudden screams, and performers behaving strangely. Then guests begin attacking one another. The infected are not merely frightened or injured; they rise again and bite anyone nearby. The park’s festive atmosphere collapses into panic as families flee, ride operators abandon their posts, and security staff struggle to understand what is happening.
The Petersons try to reach the main gate, but the exits are closed as authorities attempt to contain the outbreak. They escape the Mummy Maze, where a supposed performer attacks guests, and cross a midway full of infected visitors. They take shelter with Marco, a vampire performer, and briefly reach the park’s security office. Its monitors reveal that the outbreak has spread across the grounds. Security routes them toward a service gate, but the path takes them through a graveyard attraction, a scarecrow field, and a malfunctioning Ferris wheel. Each themed area becomes a real danger, turning the park’s playful decorations into obstacles and traps.
During the chaos, Emily becomes separated from the Petersons. Will presses on in search of her, while Laura and Amy try to follow. They learn that Emily has made her way toward the roller coaster and find her on a high maintenance catwalk above the park. From there, Will sees how widespread the disaster has become: fires, crowds, and infected moving through the attractions. Emily admits she was scratched in the Mummy Maze and is changing. She can hear the people around her and smell their blood, but she is terrified of hurting Amy. Will insists that she is still herself, while Emily warns him that she may not remain in control.
The family reunites and makes for the west service gate with help from Jules, a ride operator. They rescue a woman and her child along the way, but the gate is blocked by police. The officers see Emily’s wound and order everyone away from her. Before they can decide what to do, infected guests overwhelm the barricade. The Petersons escape beyond the inner fence, but the park is sealed behind them. Emily is taken to a triage area, where doctors find her temperature unusually low and her condition worsening. When the medical tent is attacked, the Petersons are forced to flee without her.
Outside the park, the outbreak continues. An infected passenger attacks inside an evacuation bus, proving that the disaster is no longer confined to the attraction. The Petersons leave the bus and make their way home through a city unsettled by sirens, rumors, and emergency warnings. At home, they try to believe that distance and locked doors will keep them safe. They contact Emily’s father but receive no answer.
At dawn, Emily appears on their porch. She seems frightened and remains lucid, but Will sees the dark veins in her skin and refuses to let her enter. She walks away. Soon after, infected find their way into the Peterson home, forcing the family upstairs. Dr. Jonathan Hayes calls and explains that the finger bone came from the cave and may be connected to the outbreak. He admits he does not know how to stop it.
A bone appears inside the Petersons’ house, and Emily returns, warning them that the dead are being drawn to it. As the infected break in, she fights her growing hunger and tells Amy to escape. The Petersons flee through an upstairs window while Emily stays behind to delay the attackers.
By dawn, the family is outside, but no one knows whether Emily has survived or how far the infection has spread. In the empty house, the finger bone cracks open, releasing a dark thread of life. The cave’s secret has crossed continents, and the outbreak may only be beginning.
